Please read this agreement carefully before submitting any video, audio recording, photograph, written material or other content to The Longest Movie.
This is a legally binding agreement between you and The Longest Movie, the operator of The Longest Movie, referred to in this agreement as "we", "us", "our" or "The Longest Movie".
By submitting a Contribution and electronically signing this agreement, you agree to be legally bound by its terms.
If you do not agree with every part of this agreement, do not submit a Contribution.
2. Definitions
In this agreement:
"Contribution" means everything that you submit or provide to us in connection with The Longest Movie, including video, audio, photographs, recordings, spoken words, written material, captions, titles, files, metadata and other material.

"Project Parties" means The Longest Movie, its owners, directors, officers, employees, contractors, producers, editors, affiliates, successors, assigns, distributors, exhibitors, broadcasters, streaming services, platforms, sponsors, insurers, professional advisers, licensees and sublicensees.
3. Consideration and purpose of this agreement
In consideration of us receiving and reviewing your Contribution for possible inclusion in the Project, and the mutual promises contained in this agreement, you enter into this agreement and grant the rights described below.
You acknowledge that our agreement to receive or review your Contribution does not create any obligation to use, publish or include it.
4. Eligibility
You represent, warrant and undertake that:
- you are at least 18 years old;
- you have full legal capacity to enter into this agreement;
- you are entering into it voluntarily;
- the information you provide to us is accurate;
- you are the person identified in the submission; and
- you have authority to grant every right and permission described in this agreement.
We do not accept Contributions from people under 18 unless we have expressly agreed otherwise in writing in advance and put appropriate separate documentation in place.
5. Your responsibility for the Contribution
You are solely responsible for the content of your Contribution.
Our acceptance, moderation, editing, storage or use of a Contribution does not amount to legal approval of anything contained in it.
You must independently ensure that you are legally entitled to submit everything contained in your Contribution.
6. Your warranties
You represent, warrant and undertake to us that, at the time of submission and whenever you provide additional material in connection with your Contribution:
- the Contribution is original to you or you have obtained all rights, licences, permissions and consents required for us to use it in accordance with this agreement;
- you own or control all copyright and other intellectual-property rights which you purport to assign or license to us;
- you have obtained legally valid permission from every identifiable person deliberately included in the Contribution;
- no person under 18 is deliberately included in the Contribution unless we have expressly approved this in writing in advance;
- the Contribution does not infringe copyright, performers' rights, trade marks, database rights, moral rights, privacy rights, confidentiality rights or any other rights belonging to another person;
- the Contribution does not contain music, footage, broadcasts, films, photographs, artwork, recordings or other protected material which you are not authorised to provide for the uses described in this agreement;
- the Contribution does not contain any statement which you know to be false;
- you have not recklessly presented an allegation as fact without an adequate basis for believing it to be true;
- the Contribution is not defamatory or maliciously false;
- the Contribution does not unlawfully threaten, harass, intimidate or abuse another person;
- the Contribution does not unlawfully incite, encourage, promote or assist violence, terrorism, hatred or criminal activity;
- the Contribution does not contain unlawful discriminatory or hateful material;
- the Contribution does not contain obscene or otherwise unlawful sexual material;
- the Contribution does not contain child sexual abuse material or any sexualised depiction of a person under 18;
- the Contribution does not unlawfully disclose private, confidential, privileged or legally protected information;
- the Contribution does not disclose information in breach of a contractual duty, employment duty, fiduciary duty, non-disclosure agreement or other obligation of confidence;
- the Contribution does not breach a court order, injunction, reporting restriction or other legal restriction;
- the Contribution does not create an unlawful risk of prejudice to active legal proceedings;
- the Contribution does not unlawfully identify a protected victim, witness, child or other person whose identity must not be published;
- the Contribution does not contain unlawful personal data belonging to another person;
- the Contribution was not created by unlawfully accessing another person's device, account, property or information;
- the Contribution does not contain malicious software, hidden executable code or other material intended to damage or interfere with computer systems;
- the Contribution has not been materially manipulated in a manner intended to deceive viewers about its authenticity;
- you will not falsely represent AI-generated, synthetic or manipulated content as an authentic recording of a real event or real person; and
- our use of the Contribution in accordance with this agreement will not require us to make any payment to you or, to the best of your knowledge, to any third party.
7. Opinions, allegations and factual statements
You acknowledge that expressing an opinion and making an allegation of fact are legally different.
You agree not to use your Contribution to make an unsupported allegation of serious wrongdoing against an identifiable individual or organisation.
In particular, you must not make unsupported allegations concerning criminal conduct, fraud, corruption, sexual misconduct, professional misconduct or other serious wrongdoing.
The fact that an allegation has previously appeared on social media, a website, a newspaper, a television programme or elsewhere does not by itself give you or us the right to republish it.
Where you express an opinion, you should make it clear that it is your opinion and, where appropriate, identify the factual basis on which that opinion is based.
8. Court proceedings and legally restricted information
You must not submit material which could unlawfully interfere with the administration of justice.
Without limitation, you must not knowingly submit material which:
- creates a substantial risk of serious prejudice to active proceedings;
- asserts or assumes the guilt or innocence of a person in circumstances where publication could unlawfully prejudice proceedings;
- reveals restricted evidence;
- reveals previous convictions where publication is legally restricted or prejudicial;
- identifies a person protected by law, court order, injunction or reporting restriction;
- identifies a victim of a sexual offence contrary to applicable law;
- identifies a protected child involved in legal proceedings; or
- otherwise breaches contempt-of-court laws or reporting restrictions.
9. Assignment of intellectual-property rights
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you hereby assign to The Longest Movie, absolutely and with full title, all right, title and interest that you own or may acquire in the Contribution, including all present and future copyright and other assignable intellectual-property rights, for the entire period during which those rights subsist, including any extensions, renewals, revivals or restorations of those rights, throughout the world.
The assignment includes the right to bring, defend, settle or otherwise deal with claims relating to infringement of the assigned rights occurring after the assignment and, to the extent legally possible, before it.
You agree to execute any further reasonable document or take any reasonable step that we may require to confirm, perfect or give effect to this assignment.
10. Fallback licence
To the extent that any right in the Contribution cannot legally be assigned to us, or any attempted assignment is ineffective for any reason, you grant us the broadest licence permitted by law in respect of that right.
That licence is worldwide, exclusive to the extent legally possible, transferable, sublicensable, royalty-free and, subject to applicable law, irrevocable for the entire period during which the relevant right exists.
The licence permits us and anyone authorised by us to use the Contribution in any manner described in this agreement and in any media or technology now known or developed in the future.
11. Performers' rights
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you assign to us any assignable performers' property rights and other transferable rights that you have in your recorded performance.
Where any performers' right cannot be assigned, you grant us all consents, permissions and licences necessary for us and the Project Parties to:
- record the performance;
- copy the recording;
- edit and adapt it;
- issue copies to the public;
- communicate it to the public;
- broadcast it;
- stream it;
- make it available on demand;
- exhibit or perform it publicly;
- include it in other works; and
- authorise others to do any of those things.
12. Moral rights
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you irrevocably and unconditionally waive in favour of us and the Project Parties all moral rights and analogous rights that you have now or may acquire in the Contribution or your performance.
This includes, where applicable, rights to be identified as author, director or performer and rights to object to derogatory treatment.
If any such right cannot legally be waived, you irrevocably consent, to the fullest extent permitted by law, to any act or omission by us or a Project Party which would otherwise infringe that right.
13. Rights to your image, likeness and voice
You consent to the recording, reproduction, editing, publication and exploitation of your:
- image;
- likeness;
- appearance;
- voice;
- name;
- display name;
- performance; and
- biographical information that you expressly provide for publication.
We may identify you or choose not to identify you.
We may use your Contribution without attributing it to you.
14. Our rights to use and exploit the Contribution
Without limiting any assignment, licence or consent contained elsewhere in this agreement, we may use the Contribution, in whole or in part, for any lawful purpose connected with the Project.
This includes the unrestricted right, subject to applicable law, to:
- copy it;
- reproduce it;
- edit it;
- trim or shorten it;
- crop it;
- resize it;
- reframe it;
- compress it;
- change its format;
- adjust colour, sound, brightness, picture quality or volume;
- remove background noise;
- blur, obscure, bleep or mute material;
- add music, sound, commentary or other material;
- add titles, credits, captions or subtitles;
- transcribe it;
- translate it;
- create accessible versions;
- combine it with other Contributions;
- place it next to Contributions containing opposing or contradictory views;
- include it in compilations and edited works;
- create excerpts and clips;
- use still frames from it;
- archive and preserve it;
- exhibit it publicly;
- show it in cinemas, galleries, museums, festivals, conferences, events or other venues;
- broadcast it;
- stream it;
- make it available on demand;
- publish it on websites, apps and social-media platforms;
- distribute it physically or digitally;
- license it to broadcasters, distributors, streaming services, cinemas, festivals and other third parties;
- use excerpts in trailers, advertisements and promotional material;
- use excerpts in press, publicity and public-relations materials;
- use it in material about the making, history or promotion of The Longest Movie;
- use it for educational, archival or historical purposes;
- commercially exploit the Project;
- monetise the Project or publications containing the Contribution;
- include advertising or sponsorship in or around publications containing the Contribution; and
- authorise third parties to exercise any of these rights.
These rights apply throughout the world and in all media and formats now known or developed in the future.
15. Technical and automated processing
You acknowledge that we may use technical or automated systems to process Contributions for purposes including upload handling, security checking, moderation, transcription, captioning, translation, audio enhancement, picture enhancement, encoding, compression, accessibility and distribution.
Such systems may include AI-assisted tools.
Nothing in this clause gives us permission to create an unrelated synthetic endorsement by you or deliberately represent words which you did not say as though you had said them.
16. Editorial control
We have absolute editorial discretion, subject to applicable law, over whether and how a Contribution is used.
We may:
- use the entire Contribution;
- use only part of it;
- edit it for length, clarity, technical quality or legal reasons;
- place it anywhere within the Project;
- place it next to material with which you strongly disagree;
- publish it with or without your name;
- remove it from one publication while retaining it in another;
- delay its publication;
- geo-restrict it;
- decline to use it; or
- cease using it.
You have no right to inspect or approve the finished Project, any edit of your Contribution, its context, accompanying material, advertising, publicity, titles, subtitles, translations or other uses authorised by this agreement.
17. No guarantee against disagreement, criticism or offence
You understand that the Project may contain controversial political and social opinions.
Your Contribution may appear close to material with which you strongly disagree.
Members of the public may criticise, discuss, quote, report on, parody or comment on the Project or your Contribution.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for the independent lawful reactions, opinions or conduct of third parties.
18. No guarantee of inclusion
Submission does not guarantee publication or inclusion.
We may reject or cease using a Contribution at any time, with or without giving a reason.
We have no obligation to publish your Contribution within any particular period or at all.
19. No payment or royalties
Unless we have separately agreed otherwise with you in a written agreement signed by us:
- you will not be paid for submitting the Contribution;
- you will not receive royalties, residuals or licence fees;
- you will not receive a share of advertising, sponsorship, distribution or other revenue;
- you will not acquire ownership of the Project or The Longest Movie; and
- you will not acquire any right to an accounting of income generated by the Project.
You expressly acknowledge that the Project may be commercially exploited and may generate revenue.
20. No employment, partnership or endorsement
Nothing in this agreement creates an employment relationship, agency, joint venture, partnership or fiduciary relationship between you and us.
Your appearance in the Project does not mean that you endorse us, and our inclusion of your Contribution does not mean that we endorse you or your views.
21. No confidentiality
A Contribution is not submitted in confidence.
You should not submit information which you need us to keep confidential.
Subject to applicable data-protection law, we may disclose a Contribution and relevant information associated with it where reasonably necessary to:
- operate the Project;
- obtain legal advice;
- deal with a complaint or legal claim;
- investigate suspected infringement or unlawful material;
- deal with insurers;
- respond to a platform, distributor, broadcaster or exhibitor;
- protect our legal rights;
- comply with a court order or other legal obligation;
- respond lawfully to law-enforcement or regulatory authorities; or
- protect the safety or legal rights of another person.
22. Moderation does not transfer responsibility to us
We may moderate Contributions, but we are not required to identify every possible legal problem before publication.
Our moderation, editing or acceptance of your Contribution does not release you from the warranties and obligations contained in this agreement.
23. Complaints and evidence
If we receive a complaint concerning your Contribution, we may temporarily or permanently remove, restrict or suspend its use while the matter is investigated.
Subject to applicable law, we may retain copies of the Contribution, submission records, consent records and relevant technical information where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, investigate abuse, comply with legal obligations or maintain an evidential record.
24. Indemnity
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and keep indemnified the Project Parties against losses, liabilities, damages, settlements, judgments, claims, demands, costs and reasonable legal expenses suffered or reasonably incurred as a result of a third-party claim to the extent that the claim arises from:
- your breach of any representation, warranty or undertaking in this agreement;
- your submission of material which you did not have the right to submit;
- your infringement of another person's intellectual-property, privacy, confidentiality or other rights;
- an unlawful statement made by you in the Contribution;
- fraud or deliberate misrepresentation by you; or
- your deliberate unlawful conduct in connection with the Contribution.
You agree to provide reasonable cooperation in dealing with any such claim.
We may take control of the defence, handling or settlement of a claim for which indemnification is sought, acting reasonably.
This indemnity does not apply to the extent that a claim was caused solely by our unauthorised alteration of the Contribution after submission in a manner which falls outside the rights granted by this agreement.
25. Release
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and discharge the Project Parties from claims arising solely from an authorised use of the Contribution in accordance with this agreement, including claims relating to:
- use of your image, likeness or voice;
- failure to identify or credit you;
- editing permitted by this agreement;
- publication or distribution permitted by this agreement;
- the positioning of your Contribution within the Project; and
- commercial exploitation expressly permitted by this agreement.
Nothing in this agreement releases or excludes liability which cannot lawfully be released or excluded.
26. Editing and misrepresentation
You acknowledge that ordinary editing inevitably changes the length, sequence and context of recordings.
You therefore consent to reasonable editorial changes authorised by this agreement.
However, nothing in this agreement gives us permission deliberately to fabricate a statement by you or deliberately alter your words with the intention of reversing their substantive meaning.
27. Third-party platforms and further circulation
You acknowledge that once material has been lawfully published, streamed, broadcast, distributed or made available online, third parties may copy, quote, embed, repost, archive or otherwise disseminate it.
We cannot guarantee that every third-party copy can later be identified, controlled or removed.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for unauthorised acts by independent third parties which occur after lawful publication by us.
28. Personal information
We will process personal information associated with your submission in accordance with our Privacy Notice and applicable data-protection law.
Your Contribution may itself contain personal information, including your face, voice, name and opinions.
A Contribution discussing politics may reveal political opinions. Political opinions constitute special category personal data under UK data-protection law.
Where required, we will obtain explicit consent separately from this agreement for processing special category personal data.
Acceptance of this Contributor Agreement is not intended to replace any separate explicit consent required under data-protection law.
Our Privacy Notice is available here
29. Withdrawal of data-protection consent
Where we rely on your consent or explicit consent for particular processing of personal information, you have the right to withdraw that consent in accordance with applicable law.
Withdrawal of consent does not make processing carried out lawfully before withdrawal unlawful.
Withdrawal of data-protection consent does not, by itself, retrospectively cancel an intellectual-property assignment or licence granted under this agreement.
However, any future exercise of intellectual-property rights by us remains subject to applicable data-protection law and any legal obligations that apply to us.
Our Privacy Notice explains how to exercise your data-protection rights.
30. Removal requests
If you want to request that we cease future use of your Contribution, contact:
We will consider and deal with the request in accordance with applicable law and our Privacy Notice.
You acknowledge that we may not be legally required or practically able to recall or destroy copies which have already been lawfully:
- distributed;
- sold;
- broadcast;
- screened;
- downloaded;
- archived;
- licensed to third parties; or
- incorporated into completed physical or digital works.
Nothing in this clause limits any right which the law gives you and which cannot lawfully be restricted.
31. Privacy of your contact details
We will not ordinarily publish your private email address, telephone number, postal address or other contact details as part of the Project.
This does not prevent us from processing or disclosing such information where lawfully necessary for the purposes described in our Privacy Notice or this agreement.
32. Security and copies
You should retain your own copy of every original file that you submit.
We do not guarantee permanent storage of your original file and are not responsible for providing you with a backup copy.
33. Changes to this agreement
The version of this agreement which applies to your Contribution is the version that you electronically signed when you submitted it.
We may amend these terms for future submissions.
We will retain or be capable of reproducing a record of the version associated with each submission.
We will not retrospectively replace the agreement associated with an existing submission merely by publishing a new version on our website.
34. Electronic signature and intention to be bound
You agree that this agreement may be entered into electronically.
By entering your full legal name in the electronic-signature field, selecting the relevant acceptance box and submitting your Contribution, you intend:
- to authenticate this agreement;
- to sign this agreement electronically;
- to be legally bound by it; and
- where a right may only be assigned by a signed written instrument, to execute this agreement as that signed written instrument.
You consent to our retaining electronic records showing your acceptance of this agreement, including the date and time, version accepted, electronic signature and other appropriate audit information.
35. Further assurance
You agree, at our reasonable request and expense, to execute further documents or take further reasonable steps necessary to confirm or give effect to the rights granted to us under this agreement.
36. Transfer by us
We may assign, transfer, license, sublicense or otherwise deal with our rights under this agreement in connection with the ownership, production, financing, distribution, exhibition, sale, transfer or operation of the Project or The Longest Movie.
You may not assign or transfer your obligations under this agreement without our prior written consent.
37. Third-party rights
Each Project Party which is intended to benefit from a release, permission, limitation or indemnity in this agreement may enforce the relevant provision under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
Except for those Project Parties, no other person who is not a party to this agreement has a right to enforce it under that Act.
38. No waiver
If we delay or fail to enforce any provision of this agreement, that does not waive our right to enforce it later.
A waiver of one breach does not constitute a waiver of any other breach.
39. Severability
If any provision of this agreement is found to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will, to the extent legally possible, be interpreted or reduced so that it becomes valid and enforceable while preserving its intended effect as closely as possible.
If that is not possible, the affected provision will be severed and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
40. Entire agreement
This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and us concerning the rights granted in relation to your Contribution, except for:
- our Privacy Notice;
- any separate data-protection consent;
- any separate written agreement expressly stated to supplement this agreement; and
- rights or obligations which cannot legally be excluded.
You acknowledge that you have not relied on any promise or representation concerning the use of your Contribution which is not set out in this agreement or another written agreement signed by us.
41. Governing law
This agreement and any non-contractual dispute or claim arising from it are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
42. Jurisdiction
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or connected with this agreement.
Nothing in this clause removes any mandatory legal rights which apply to you and which cannot lawfully be excluded because of the country in which you live.
43. Contact details

- you have read the whole agreement;
- you understand that it is legally binding;
- you understand that you are assigning significant intellectual-property rights to us;
- you understand that your Contribution may be edited, distributed and commercially exploited throughout the world;
