You can be positive, negative, serious, funny, angry, enthusiastic or somewhere in between. Strong opinions are welcome. Threats, abuse, unsupported allegations and unlawful content are not.
Keep it short
Aim for 10 to 30 seconds.
If your video is much shorter or longer, we may not be able to include it.
Record in landscape
Please hold your phone horizontally and record in landscape, not portrait.
The Longest Movie may be shown on cinema screens as well as online, so landscape footage works best.
Be clear
Speak clearly and try to record somewhere reasonably quiet.
Make sure we can see and hear you properly.
Tell us what you think
We are interested in your opinion.
You can strongly praise or criticise Donald Trump, other politicians, political parties, governments, policies or public figures.
However, please do not make new or unsupported factual allegations about identifiable people or organisations.
In particular, do not accuse somebody of crimes, corruption, fraud, sexual misconduct, dishonesty or other serious wrongdoing unless you are simply referring accurately to a well-established and verifiable public fact.
Repeating something you have read or heard elsewhere does not necessarily make it safe to publish.
A good rule is:
Tell us what you think and why you think it, rather than making allegations about people.
Do not comment on active court cases
Please do not discuss an ongoing criminal trial or other active legal proceedings in a way that could affect the case.
In particular, do not:
- say that somebody involved in an active case is guilty or innocent;
- discuss evidence that may be considered by a court;
- mention previous convictions where doing so could prejudice proceedings;
- identify somebody whose identity is legally protected;
- identify victims of sexual offences;
- identify children involved in proceedings; or
- repeat information covered by a reporting restriction, injunction or court order.
No threats or encouragement of violence
Do not threaten, encourage, celebrate or call for violence against anybody.
This applies regardless of whether you are talking about a politician, political supporter, protester, public figure or anyone else.
Avoid abuse and hate
Strong political criticism is fine. Hateful or threatening abuse is not.
Please do not include racist, homophobic, religious, sexist or other hateful slurs, or attack somebody because of characteristics such as their race, nationality, religion, sexuality or disability.
Respect people's privacy
Do not reveal private or confidential information about another person.
This includes things such as:
- home addresses;
- telephone numbers;
- private email addresses;
- financial information;
- medical information;
- private correspondence or messages;
- passwords or account details; or
- other information somebody would reasonably expect to remain private.
Please also think carefully before revealing sensitive personal information about yourself. If your contribution is used, it may eventually be seen by people around the world.
Keep other people out of shot
Ideally, you should be the only identifiable person in your recording.
Do not deliberately include another identifiable adult unless they know they are being recorded and have agreed to appear.
Do not include anyone under 18 in your recording.
Turn off music, television and radio
Please make sure copyrighted music, television programmes, films, podcasts, radio programmes or other recordings are not playing in the background.
Even quiet background music can prevent us from using an otherwise excellent contribution.
Please also avoid deliberately filming copyrighted photographs, artwork, videos or other third-party material.
Make it your own
Your contribution must be a genuine recording that you are entitled to submit.
Do not submit:
- somebody else's video;
- stolen or copied footage;
- an impersonation presented as though it were the real person;
- a deepfake;
- an AI-generated person presented as genuine;
- deliberately manipulated footage intended to deceive; or
- material which you do not have permission to use.
No illegal or seriously harmful material
Do not submit content that is unlawful or which encourages serious criminal activity.
This includes genuine threats, incitement to violence, terrorist material, sexual material involving children, unlawful harassment or material whose possession or publication would itself be illegal.
Don't advertise
Please do not use your contribution primarily to advertise or promote a business, product, service, website, political campaign or message, fundraising campaign or other commercial venture.
Political opinions are welcome, but contributions which are simply campaign advertisements may be rejected.
We review every submission
Uploading a video does not guarantee that it will appear in The Longest Movie.
Every submission will be reviewed by actual humans and AI detectors before use.
We may reject a contribution, remove parts of it, shorten it, edit it, obscure information, mute words or decide not to use it at all.
Our moderation process is not legal advice or approval of anything you say. You remain responsible for the content of your contribution.
Keep it simple
If you are unsure whether something is appropriate, follow this rule:
Answer the question, give us your genuine opinion, explain why you hold it, and concentrate on ideas and actions rather than making accusations or abusing people.
Language and translation
Videos in any language are welcome. If your video contains any speech that is not in English, include a complete English transcript or translation when you upload. Translate all spoken words, including speech from anyone else who can be heard.
Your contribution will remain pending until we can review both the original speech and the translation. Providing a translation does not guarantee inclusion. We may use your translation for subtitles and make minor corrections for clarity or timing without changing your meaning.
